Sweet Finnish finished

JP CENTER—The Gazette learned Wednesday that Sweet Finnish bakery at 761 Centre St., has closed its doors.

News of the bakery’s closing appears to have first been posted on the Boston Media Makers blog when JP resident Steve Garfield, who runs the group, announced it would be meeting at Doyle’s Café this Sunday because Sweet Finnish had closed.

Garfield forwarded the Gazette an e-mail he received from Sweet Finnish owner Ulla Monestime at 9:32 Wednesday morning. In it she wrote: “Unfortunately Sweet Finnish cannot provide meeting space for Boston Media Makers any more, as we are closed for business. We thank you for the support, publicity and patronage over the last 2+ years and wish your group the very best.”

The cafe was closed on Wednesday afternoon. When the Gazette called Sweet Finnish, store hours were still listed on the answering machine and there was no mention that it was closing.

Sweet Finnish opened in January, 2005. In addition to hosting Boston Media Makers’ weekly meetings and other groups, it hosted the “Word on The Street” poetry series as part of JP Centre/South Main Streets’ First Thursdays celebrations and displayed numerous art exhibits.
