Hair salon looks to open at former bakery spot

JP CENTER—A new hair salon, not a restaurant, is planning to occupy the former Sweet Finnish spot at 761 Centre St. Two hairdressers who have worked at a Newbury Street salon for a long time, along with a partner, said they hope to open in early September.

The salon will be called Station Eight because the space will have eight hairstyling stations. The hairdressers, a man and a woman, are both longtime JP residents who recently moved to Roslindale.

They asked this week that their names be withheld from publication pending their giving notice at their current jobs.

“I always wanted to be in JP,” the woman said in an interview this week. “I am very excited.”

She said they are working with the City of Boston to “do what we can to be green,” regarding hot water and lighting.

At the end of June, a Jamaica Plain resident was looking for approvals to open a Scottish restaurant called Acoustica, which would have featured live acoustic music, in the space Sweet Finnish vacated in April.
