Match Day School leaving JP

The Match Community Day School, which is a charter public school that first opened in 2011, will soon be leaving Jamaica Plain for a new home on Hyde Park/Mattapan line.

The school is currently split in two locations in JP: Kindergarten through grade 2 reside at leased space at 86 Wachusett St., while grades 3 and 4 are at the Match Middle School at 215 Forest Hills St.         The 86 Wachusett St. address is a former church school on the Bethel AME campus. The future of that property is unclear. Bethel AME did not respond to Gazette questions.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to build a permanent home for Match Community Day that can house all of our students and to be moving to such a great neighborhood in the summer of 2015,” said Match Chief Operating Officer Mike Larsson in an email to the Gazette. “We’re tremendously thankful to our neighbors on Wachusett Street for being so welcoming and accommodating to us over the last six years.”

The new school, which will be located at 110 Poydras St., will cost $18 million and will be 68,000 square feet. Larrson said construction is expected to start in June and be completed in August 2015.
