Court trials to move for Casey Arborway project

All jury trials will be transferred out of Jamaica Plain’s West Roxbury District Court at the start of next year because of the upcoming Casey Arborway project, according to a Trial Court spokesperson.

Casey Arborway project will replace the Casey Overpass, which carries the Arborway over the Forest Hills T Station area. A new six- to eight-lane surface road will be constructed. Demolition is expected to start sometime this winter.

“Due to the MassDOT Casey Arborway highway construction project taking place adjacent to the West Roxbury District Court, and concerns about increased noise levels, as of January 5, 2015, all jury trials in the West Roxbury will be transferred to the Brighton District Court until further notice,” said the spokesperson in an email. “All non-jury trials and other court matters will continue to be heard in the West Roxbury court.”

The spokesperson said that jurors already summoned to the courthouse at 445 Arborway will receive notices reassigning them to either the Brighton District Court or the Central District Court.

As the Gazette previously reported, the project also will relocate the courthouse parking to the nearby Arborway Yard.
