Urban Edge CEO leaves for Baker administration

Chrystal Kornegay has left her role as chief executive of Urban Edge, having been appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker as chief of the Department of Housing and Community Development.

Urban Edge is a Jamaica Plain-based community development corporation.

The Baker administration did not return a request to interview Kornegay.

“Chrystal is a spectacular leader. It is sad for Urban Edge, but it was inevitable she would be tapped for bigger and better things,” said Tom Davis, board chair of Urban Edge.

He said that she is “dynamic” and has “incredible vision.” Davis said she left behind a “strong senior staff” and “great team.”

Urban Edge is currently in the process of selecting an interim leader and will organize a search committee to find a new chief executive, according to Davis. He said the committee will “cast a wide net,” as the next executive will have “really big shoes to fill.”
