JACKSON SQ.–A teen is facing firearms charges after Boston Police officers allegedly found a handgun hidden under a mattress in his bedroom in the Bromley-Heath public housing development, according to the Boston Police Department.
According to BPD, officers visited the 17-year-old’s home at 9 Horan Way on Jan. 30 after state Department of Youth Services reported he had been seen in the apartment with a firearm. Officers arrested the teen on an outstanding warrant, then conducted a search of his bedroom. They allegedly found a loaded .22-caliber handgun hidden under a mattress. BPD originally reported that the weapon was a rifle, but then altered a press release to say “firearm.” It appears the weapon was a Ruger Mark III Hunter, which is a pistol.
The teen’s name was not released due to his age. He faces charges of unsafe storage of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
