2 face charges in JP store robberies

Two men are in custody and facing charges in two of Jamaica Plain’s recent store robberies, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Heath Carson, 35, of Quincy, and Richard Perry, 41, of Taunton, are accused of committing a Jan. 22 hold-up at the Tostado Sandwich Bar at 300 Centre St. in Jackson Square. Carson will face additional charges of allegedly committing an armed robbery at the JP Variety Store at 162 South St. on Jan. 6, according to the DA’s Office.

The Boston Police Department is investigating the men for any connection to other JP store robberies in December and January, according to the DA’s Office. Targets of those crimes included Metro PCS, JP Auto Service and the Boylston Street City Feed and Supply shop. BPD previously issued a call for tips in those crimes, including security-camera images of a suspect.

Perry was identified as a suspect after BPD distributed security-camera images from the Tostado robbery to other police departments, according to the DA’s Office. BPD learned that Perry was wanted by Cambridge Police for allegedly being involved in two armed robberies there.

On Jan. 23, Perry was arrested at house on Minden Street in JP by the U.S. Marshals and Boston and Cambridge police officers. Carson turned himself in on Feb. 11.

Prosecutors allege that Perry committed the Tostado robbery, with Carson driving him two and from the store and providing the weapon. They also allege that Carson committed the JP Variety Store robbery.

Carson is currently charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the Tostado robbery. He will be arraigned on charges relating to the JP Variety Store robbery on March 12, the DA’s Office said. Following a Feb. 13 court hearing, he was being held on $10,000 bail while also being transported to Cambridge, where he is wanted on warrants.

Perry has yet to be arraigned on the robbery charges.
