STONYBROOK—A 20-year-old Jamaica Plain man suffered a life-threatening wound after accidentally blasting himself in the leg with a sawed-off shotgun while hanging out at English High School’s football field bleachers on Feb. 15, sources with knowledge of the investigation told the Gazette.
Ramon Martinez of 3252 Washington St. was found wounded at around 10 p.m. on the Sunday night by Boston Police officers at 144 McBride St., according to police information obtained by the Gazette.
“They sent the Homicide Unit because they thought he wasn’t going to make it,” a source told the Gazette. “The back of his leg was like a bowling ball came out the other end.”
The man tossed the shotgun over a fence, but the weapon was found by police officers, the source said.
Boston Police Department (BPD) spokesperson Elaine Driscoll confirmed that BPD is “investigating the pos-sibility that this was a self-inflicted wound.”
English High was also the site of an assault with a dangerous weapon on the morning of Friday, Feb. 6, according to BPD incident reports. BPD did not elaborate on that incident.
