The following Jamaica Plain individuals, businesses and organizations have received recognition.

Officers Carl Shorter, Angela Williams-Mitchell and Lylana Jones-Henderson have all received Commissioner’s Commendations because of their quick response and rapid apprehension of two dangerous and armed criminals in late May.

Gabe Cohen, Ben Cohen, Eric Mearns, Glen Harnish and Michael Venier will cycle in the eight annual Tri- State Trek to raise funds and awareness for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) research.

Mitchell Tunick and his son, Perry Hatchfield, took a 1,000 mile bike ride up the east coast to raise money for the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Melanie Allen has been named the 2010 Educator of the Year at Rafael Hernadez Two Way Bilingual K-8 School.

Paula A. Katsiroubas has graduated from UMass Amherst.

Brashani Reece and Garo Hagop Yessayan have been named to the Dean’s List at UMass Lowell for Spring 2010.

Elisabeth Dalton has graduated from the Rivers School with distinction.

Brendan Hughes/strong> achieved first honors at Catholic Memorial School.

Cecelia Hanifin, Cassandra Vickers, Clare Fisher, Elizabeth Greene, Sara Taylor, Sarah Greene, Gabriella Vitale, Grace Fisher and Victoria Iannella all won Red Ribbons at Newton Day School. Academic Prizes were awarded to Hanifin in Creative Writing, C. Fisher in Chinese I, E. Greene in Algebra II, and Bianca Vitale for the PSALMS chorale group. Hanifin and B. Vitale won Headmistress’s Awards. Taylor received the Kiki Niedermeyer Award. Sacred Heart Goal Awards were also presented to G. Fisher and to B. Vitale.
