The following Jamaica Plain individuals, businesses and organizations have received recognition.

Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich will receive a 2010 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer’s Award, given to women who demonstrate excellence and promise.

Arielle Saavedra and Felicia Kazer were recipients of a year-long Fellowship in Science Education by the Boston Science Partnership.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Massachusetts Medical Society received a $273,000 grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Bottom Line received a $10,000 donation from Staples, Inc. to help disadvantaged youth achieve success in college.

Christopher Kadamus has been named principal engineer at Essential, an industrial design firm.

Luke and Sophie Overshiner welcomed baby boy Colt Robert on Sept. 2.

William “Ned” Friedman has been named the Arnold Arboretum’s next director.
