Thanks to support from city Department of Neighborhood staffers, Hyde/Jackson Square Main Street (HJSMS) has remained active since Executive Director Carlos Scillachi was suspended in July, DND spokesperson Jessica Shumaker told the Gazette this week.
In an email, Shumaker said that DND staffers are working with a 13 local businesses on signage improvement projects.
She said HJSMS’s board is handling other work its contract with the city obligates it to complete, including “executing promotional, retail and fund-raising events,” and “keeping an up-to-date inventory of priority infrastructure and streetscape projects.”
“The organization is not dormant…Even without an executive director they can operate on their own, and they are,” Shumaker said.
