JACKSON SQ.—Gail’s Café and Grille, a new restaurant at 268 Centre St., opened late last month.
The restaurant serves a wide variety of food, from fish to rotisserie barbecue to baked and deli-style goods.
It is being managed by Bill Jordan, a Jamaica Plain resident who previously managed Hyde Square’s former Hi-Lo grocery store, which was controversially replaced by Whole Foods Market last year. Gail’s Café owner Lakis Vlahoulis’ first job was working at Hi-Lo, he previously told the Gazette.
Vlahoulis said this week that the restaurant is named for his wife, whose recipes are used in many of the dishes, and whose art hangs on the walls.
“It’s not just a name on a marquee. It’s also the artist whose work is inside,” he said.
The restaurant is in the same building at the new Jackson Square Laundromat and the new home for X’posure by Noel hair salon. The building was constructed by the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation.
