Letter: Thanks for Elizabeth Stone House support

We recently completed our 17th annual Elizabeth Stone House Wilderness Heals pledge hike and want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of the hikers, volunteers, team leaders and sponsors. The event helped to raise over $165,000. This support helped to make this an unforgettable, life-changing experience for everyone involved.

A special thanks to all of you who supported the Elizabeth Stone House by giving a pledge in honor of the 50-plus women (including three teenagers) who joined me and my stepdaughter Courtney in hiking for three beautiful days in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Together we conquered challenges, embraced nature, made lifelong friends and raised money for the Stone House. This compassion and community support enables the Elizabeth Stone House to help families rebuild their lives from the devastating effects of domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse and mental health struggles.

After months of hard work, physical training and fundraising, hikers set out on their three-day journey. We hiked for hours and miles, dedicating our efforts as a way to inspire and support the families of the Stone House while raising important awareness that homelessness, violence and abuse cannot be tolerated, accepted or silenced. This year, we even made time to practice yoga, hold a birthday party and celebrate a bride-to-be in the mountains!

Our fundraising goal this year is $150,000 and I am elated that we surpassed our goal and pledges are still coming in. Over 90 cents of each dollar raised goes directly toward Elizabeth Stone House programming. These funds will enable the Stone House to continue to provide vital services to families in Greater Boston, including an emergency shelter, training programs and transitional housing.

The Stone House is grateful beyond measure for the extraordinary support and dedication of Wilderness Heals hikers, sponsors, volunteers and donors. Save the date for next year’s Wilderness Heals pledge hike: July 19-21, 2013.
