Sherrill House, a not-for-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, on Nov. 27 hosted a birthday celebration for long-term care resident and native Bostonian Beatrice Busby, who turned 109 years old. Beatrice spent her career as a secretary and worked three jobs as a single mother to her son, putting him through college. At 80 years old, she reconnected with a friend, fell in love and married him, sharing almost 20 years together before he passed away from cancer.
She is an avid church member at People’s Baptist Church in Boston where she was first baptized a 100 years ago at nine years old. Her birthday was celebrated with cake and singing with family and friends. Among those officials attending included Emily Shea, Commissioner of the Age Strong Commission, City of Boston, State Rep. Samantha Montaño, Mayor Michelle Wu, Patrick J. Stapleton, CEO, Sherrill House as well as Sherrill House residents and staff. Located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Sherrill House is a 182-bed, not-for-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility that provides high-quality short-term rehabilitation, traditional long-term care, and specialized care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
