About 95 people attended the vigil in support of Black Lives Matter on June 1 in front of the First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain. The monthly vigil started in December of 2015. Donna Bivens, who was the director of the Boston Busing/Desegregation Project at the Union of Minority Neighborhoods for nearly seven years and is a long-term facilitator for the Center for Courage and Renewal and Anti-racism trainer and consultant for Community Change, Inc., spoke at the event. Two youth from the Youth Leadership Initiative at the Center to Support Immigrant Organizing (CSIO) read the names of Black men, women, and children who have been killed due to racist violence since the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012.
