HYDE SQ.—A half-million-dollar renovation of Mozart Park will begin within the next 10 days, according to the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.

While the park will be better in the end, the work will keep it closed all summer, said parks department spokesperson Mary Hines.

Following a series of community meetings, the parks department is spending $510,000 on a variety of improvements.

They include: improving the water spray feature; creating a small performance stage; installing game-playing tables along the street; adding picnic tables and benches; replacing the playground area, including new rubber flooring; repainting the basketball courts and replacing the backboards; and opening up the Centre/Mozart streets corner.

“The Hyde Square Task Force, which has been terrific, will be repainting the mural,” Hines added.
