Teen caught with gun in school

A Dorchester teenager was arrested Nov. 20 at English High School after allegedly being caught with a fully loaded pistol in his backpack. The 9mm handgun had its hammer cocked, meaning the trigger needed only a slight touch to fire the weapon, prosecutors allege.

Walter West Jr., 17, was held on $100,000 cash bail on various firearm charges as well as charges of trespassing and resisting arrest. West is not an English High student.

Prosecutors allege that English High student Damien Oliver, 17, of Dorchester opened a side door of the school to allow West and three other Dorchester teenagers to enter the building. The group of teens then got into an altercation with students, prosecutors say.

Boston School Police arrested West on the scene of the altercation. The other teens were arrested shortly afterward by Boston Police, school police and MBTA police. They are charged with trespassing and disturbing a public assembly.
