Hot jazz, cool fund-raiser for ESMS

Egleston Square Main Street (ESMS) would like to thank everyone who made our Hot Jazz—Cool Neighborhood fund-raiser such a resounding success! For the second year in a row, we packed the Old Stag Tavern with great people, music and energy and exceeded our fundraising goals!

The complete list of supporters is too long to list here, but we would like to recognize our key district sponsors: Boston Main Streets, John Hancock, Radius Hospital and ESAC. Of course, the support of Mayor Thomas Menino is critical to our success, and we thank him for joining us at the event. (Sorry you got outbid on those silent auction items, Mayor!)

We also thank state Reps. Liz Malia and Jeffrey Sánchez and City Councilor John Tobin for their sponsorship and for coming by to have a good time. Steve Branson and the fabulous Miles Davis tribute band, Bitches Brew, put on a blazing show, and we were hosted with generosity and spirit by Edwin Velasquez and his friendly staff at the Old Stag.

We are especially heartened by the support we received from all over Jamaica Plain, Roxbury and Boston. Merchants, institutions, community organizations, and other Main Streets districts contributed money, auction items, and time to help make this event a success. This spirit of collaboration will be critical as local business districts work together to survive and prosper during difficult economic times.

The money we raised on March 25 will sustain our efforts to build an attractive, family-friendly business district that meets the needs of the surrounding neighborhood and provides economic opportunities. Thanks to everyone for supporting this important work!
