Paul Kirk Jr. is now serving as the US senator for Jamaica Plain and all of Massachusetts, until a new senator is chosen in special elections this winter.

Kirk is holding the Senate seat that became vacant when Edward Kennedy died in office in August. Kirk is a Democrat and longtime associate of the Kennedy family. He mostly recently served as co-chairman of the US Commission on Presidential Debates and the John F. Kennedy Library Association.

Appointed to the seat by Gov. Deval Patrick, Kirk has pledged not to run in the Dec. 8 and Jan. 19 special elections.

Constituents can contact Kirk’s downtown office at 565-3170 and Washington, D.C. at 202-224-4543.

The state’s other US senator is John Kerry.
