Malia’s cookout to feature Whole Foods turkey dogs

Providing what staffers from state Rep. Liz Malia’s office described as a “healthy spin” on a long-standing tradition, Whole Foods Market will be serving up turkey dogs at this years Summer Hot Dog Nights on South Street.

Malia has been sponsoring cookouts for South Street housing development residents and neighbors for 15 years.

“In an area where neighbors come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds it is a great community building event and proof that Representative Liz Malia lives to serve her constituents,” Robert Torres from Malia’s office said in an email to the Gazette.

City Councilor Matt O’Malley, who is co-sponsoring the hot dog nights, praised Whole Foods at a recent Ward 19 Democratic Committee forum for donating “free healthy food” to the South Street cookouts. Whole Foods plans to open a new store in Hyde Square this fall.

Other supporters of the event include the Fernandez Spa, the James’s Gate restaurant and Primo Brothers’ Pizza

The cookout will be held June 28—and on every Tuesday through August 30—at 6 pm at the South Street housing development at 125 South St.
