Eyeglass shop eyes Sept. opening

CENTRAL JP—Optical Designs, an eyeglasses company with locations in Needham and Wellesley, is planning to open at 753 Centre St. within the next few weeks.

Optical Designs announced through its Twitter page on June 7 its decision to set up shop in Jamaica Plain.

Ronnie Friedman, a manager at the Needham Optical Designs, told the Gazette that Jamaica Plain was an easy decision because, “It’s a great neighborhood, has great people and a great history.”

He said Optical Designs had been looking for a location for three or four months before they discovered the 753 Centre St. space and decided, “This is where we want to be.”

Friedman said that the shop is hoping to be up and running in this new location by early September.

Optical Designs will offer a variety of services, including eye exams and prescription and nonprescription sunglasses. Optical Designs will carry a large range brands, including Paul Smith, Mykita and Ray-Ban. For more information, see opticaldesignsinc.com.

The social services agency JP APAC previously inhabited the 753 Centre St. space before moving to its sister office at 295 Centre St. in April.
