A month-long wave of house burglaries—many of them at night—has hit the South Street area.
At least eight house break-ins were reported between mid-October and last week, according to the local E-13 Police Station. Most of them were on Jamaica Street and involved forcibly breaking in.
Homes on St. Rose Street, Carolina Avenue and Sedgwick Street also were burglarized.
The Boston Police Department recommends that residents: always lock their doors, including outer doors to entrance hallways; buy a strong front door and a deadbolt lock; always lock first-floor windows when you are not at home; and purchase an alarm system.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police by calling 911, even if it does not seem like an emergency.
