Kelly Timilty, a longtime member of the Governor’s Council, died at the end of January, leaving vacant the District 2 seat. That district encompasses Jamaica Plain’s Ward 19, Precinct 12 in Woodbourne.
Secretary of State spokesperson Brian McNiff noted that according to the state’s 25th amendment, it is the legislature’s option to replace Timilty.
“I don’t know if they will fill it,” said McNiff.
If the legislature fails to act, the seat will remain vacant until a successor is elected in the fall.
The Governor’s Council confirms judicial appointments, among other duties.
