Jackson Sq. property to become parking lot

JACKSON SQ.—Local developer Mordechai Levin is planning on turning the property at 41 Amory St. into an 84-vehicle parking lot.

“To be honest with you, much of Jamaica Plain needs more parking. Much of the city needs more parking. It’s an old city,” said Levin.

The site was previously used for “wrecking, dismantling and storage of 100 vehicles,” according to the zoning application for the parking lot. A hearing will be held May 8 at the zoning Board of Appeals, but Levin will first meet with the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council’s Zoning Committee. That meeting will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at the Farnsworth House, 90 South St.

Levin said with the Jackson Square redevelopment under way, “parking is going to be necessary.”
