EGLESTON SQ.—More than 20 pounds of cocaine was found in a secret compartment in a Roslindale man’s minivan during a traffic stop on School Street on April 30, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Elvyn Rafael Garcia, 31, is facing charges of drug trafficking, drug violations in a school zone, and various motor vehicle law violations. At a court hearing the same day, bail was set at $30,000.
According to the DA’s Office, a Boston Police officer in Dorchester spotted Garcia’s minivan and matched it to the description of a vehicle reported as speeding earlier in the day on Brookside Avenue in Jamaica Plain. The officer followed the minivan, which had a faulty brake light, and allegedly saw it run a stop sign on School Street in JP.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer became suspicious because Garcia appeared nervous and the vehicle is not registered to him, according to the DA’s Office. A police dog was brought to the scene and led officers to allegedly discover a hidden compartment under the minivan. The compartment allegedly contained 10 blocks of cocaine, each weighing over 2 pounds.
