The Home for Little Wanderers is holding its annual Big Wishes gift drive again this season, starting Nov. 26. But it is alerting generous Jamaica Plain residents that its recently closed 161 S. Huntington Ave. location and its traditional “Toy Room” is no longer a drop-off spot.
Instead, a new “Toy Room” drop-off will be located at the Legacy Place mall near 950 Providence Highway in Dedham. The JP Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage office at 713 Centre St. also remains a drop-off spot this year.
The Big Wishes gift drive collects new, unwrapped gifts or gift cards for children, teens and families in need. It is one of the area’s largest toy and gift collections. It will run through Dec. 21.
The Home’s Knight Children’s Center on S. Huntington was a local institution for nearly a century and a popular Big Wishes drop-off spot for generations. The Home is in the process of selling the site to a private developer, who will construct a controversial apartment building. The site is now largely closed and The Home wants residents to know that gifts should not be left there. Signs with that information will be posted at the site, spokesperson Heather MacFarlane told the Gazette.
