Churches and temple plan vigils, services

Various JP religious institutions are responding to yesterday’s events by offering extra services and support.

  • First Church in Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist, located at 6 Eliot St., held a vigil last night and is offering pastoral services. It can be reached at 617-524-1634.
  • Hope Central Church at 87 Seaverns Ave. has invited families with children to come play on their playground and talk about yesterday’s events today at 4 p.m. Pizza will be served at 5:15 p.m. and a performance by women’s chorus Voices Rising, “Singing for Peace,” will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. It can be reached at 617-522-0600.
  • Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 38 Walk Hill St. is holding a prayer service tonight at 7 p.m. t can be reached at 617-524-7900.
  • First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain, 633 Centre St., along with other institutions, is organizing a prayer vigil and community meal tomorrow evening.

The interfaith prayer vigil, to be held on First Baptist’s front yard, will begin at 7 p.m. A community meal will be offered starting at 6 p.m. First Baptist Pastor Ashlee Wiest-Laird told the Gazette.

Nehar Shalom Community Synagogue; First Church UU, Hope Central Church; and St. John’s Episcopal Church are also involved in planning the vigil, she said. Community members are welcome to bring food to share for the meal, she added.
