Regan League announces new opening day details

The JP Regan Youth League has announced the details of its rescheduled opening day parade and ceremony on Sat., April 27.

The event, rescheduled due to the Boston Marathon bombing suspect manhunt, will include the full traditional parade down Centre Street and S. Huntington Avenue and the first pitch ceremony at Daisy Field on the Jamaicaway. The ceremony will include a moment of silence for the bombing victims and a tribute to the police and other first-responders.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the Eliot School near Monument Square. The opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at Daisy Field at the Jamaicaway and Bynner Street.

The Regan League is a highly popular youth baseball and softball league that is marking its 44th season. The Gazette is a team sponsor.

Regan League president Harry Smith ran in this year’s marathon to raise funds for the league. He was not injured.
