Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Markey (5th District) beat Republican Gabriel Gomez to claim the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by John Kerry. Third-party candidate Richard Heos, who represents the Twelve Visions Party, came in a distant third.
Markey, who campaigned in Jamaica Plain at J.P. Licks and had a Hyde Square office, garnered about 76 percent of votes in the city, according to unofficial results. Gomez collected around 23 percent of votes in the city, while Heos took in less than 1 percent.
