Goddard House property sale continues

S. HUNTINGTON—The sale process of the former Goddard House property is moving forward, but the exact status of where it stands is disputed.

According to a developer, the property is under agreement to be sold to an unknown buyer. But Diana Pisciotta, spokesperson for the Goddard House, said the property is “not yet” under agreement and the sale process is continuing.

Developer Tom Donnelly said he was told June 24 by Colliers International, which is the real estate company handling the sale, that the purchase of the Goddard House was “under agreement.” Donnelly, who is not a bidder, did not know who is expected to buy the building or what the plans are.

“They want to keep it quiet until it is finalized,” he said.

Colliers International did not return a request for comment.          Pisciotta said, “We are not yet under agreement on the property. We are continuing our process, which at this point is confidential.”

She said she could not say specifically if negotiations are underway with a potential buyer as part of overall confidentiality.

The Goddard House, which is located at 201 S. Huntington Ave., was a nursing home that ceased operations on Sept. 8, 2012. The enormous brick building was constructed in 1927 and housed about 100 seniors.

The property was put on the market during the spring through a private-bidding process.

Donnelly was part of a team involved with the construction of the EnVision Hotel at 81 S. Huntington Ave. that opened last year. He had previously expressed a desire to develop the Goddard House, but said he did not put in an offer. Donnelly said if the present deal falls through, he would be “very interested” in making an offer.
