Election Dep’t uses wrong polling place name

The Boston Election Department’s official polling place list for Tuesday’s city election gave an incorrect name for a Jamaica Plain polling place. The Gazette has not received any reports of voter confusion about the error.

The guide on the department’s website (cityofboston.gov/elections) said the Agassiz Elementary School at 20 Child St. would be the polling place for Ward 11 Precincts 9-10 and Ward 19 Precincts 8-9.

The address was correct, but Agassiz Elementary was shuttered in 2011. For more than a year, the building has been home to the Margarita Muñiz Academy and the Mission Hill K-8 School. The Muñiz Academy’s sign is clearly visible along Child Street.

The Muñiz Academy is named for the late founder of another JP-area school, the Rafael Hernández K-8 School in Egleston Square. The Mission Hill School retained its name after moving from its namesake neighborhood to JP.

Corrected version: This version corrects the name of the Margarita Muñiz Academy.
