Letter: Thanks to Sen. Warren on Iran stand

As a Massachusetts voter who doesn’t want another war, I am proud that U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren spoke out against new sanctions and in support of the first-step nuclear deal with Iran.

It is alarming that some in Congress are calling to violate the deal with new sanctions and sabotage this historic diplomatic opening. As Sen. Warren wisely pointed out, “imposing additional sanctions while the United States is in the midst of negotiations risks undermining our negotiators and reducing both Iran’s willingness and its ability to strike a long-term agreement.”

I hope that U.S. Sen. Ed Markey will follow Sen. Warren’s courageousexample  and speak out against the Iran sanctions legislation (S. 1881) under consideration in the Senate. The Friends Committee on National Legislation has more info on how Congress can support a peaceful resolution of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program at fcnl.org/iran.
