The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) and JP residents and businesses are holding a “Neighborhood Peace Rally” and march tomorrow, Aug. 16, in Hyde and Jackson Squares.
“Just this summer we’ve already had three incidents in which one person died and two other people were hospitalized in critical condition due to these shootings,” JPNDC Resident Leadership Coordinator Melinda Vega said in an email to the Gazette. “Public safety is a huge concern in our community, and together we want to unite with our neighbors and obtain safety, to have freedom, and [to have] the sense of community.”
Vega said the rally will include sharing stories about how public safety matters, and creating posters and banners as symbolic gestures of peace.
The “March for Peace and Unity” is planned for 1 to 3:30 p.m. It will begin at the Hyde Square Rotary, make a stop at Mozart Park, and end at the Jackson Square T. The rally will follow and last until 4 p.m.
