Editorial: The State of JP

The annual State of Our Neighborhood forum, co-sponsored by the Gazette, convenes Feb. 26. We look forward to seeing the promised concrete policy proposals that will be devised there regarding JP’s increasing housing costs and decreasing diversity.

This is a crucial time for such ideas. Housing advocates have a great potential partner in Mayor Walsh, who has tackled affordability issues with fresh vigor in his first year in office. At the same time, the mayor’s boosterism for the Olympics and the gentrification and displacement the Games spawn threaten even basic progress.

All JP residents should consider taking this opportunity to put grassroots ideas on paper and build a stronger neighborhood.
