Roxbury Prep moving to Forest Hills

FOREST HILLS—The Roxbury Preparatory Charter School is coming to Jamaica Plain, as it has signed a two-year lease with Bethel AME Church campus.

Bethel will hold a community meeting July 30 to discuss the move to 86 Wachusett St., which is a former church school. Match Community Day School currently resides in that location, but is moving to a new location on the Hyde Park/Mattapan line.

Bethel Chief Operating Officer Nancy Dickerson said that Roxbury Prep, which has locations throughout the city, including on Mission Hill and in Dorchester, will be starting a ninth-grade class at the 86 Wachusett St. location. She said the class will be about 150 to 175 students.

The first day of school will be Aug. 24.

Dickerson said no renovations will be needed for the change and that because it is a high school class, there will be no buses. She said Bethel is holding the meeting to answer any questions residents might have.

Dickerson said that there are two one-year options to renew the lease after the two years.

The July 30 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the church’s Fellowship Hall, 38 Walk Hill St.
