The ban for people and pets from the water in Jamaica Pond was lifted Aug. 12 on the recommendation of the state Department of Public Health (DPH), according to a Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) press release.
Fishing, boating and any other kind of water contact was banned at the pond since July 20 due to a potentially dangerous bloom of blue-green algae. The lifting of the ban followed two weeks of test results showing algal cell counts below the state’s safe limit.
Jamaica Pond sits inside Jamaica Pond Park along the Jamaicaway.
