Obituary: James Hanley, former JP resident

James L. Hanley, of Melrose, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital on Oct. 9 at the age of 74.

Hanley was born and raised in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Boston English High School. He resided in Everett for eight years, and for the past 12 years, in Melrose.

Hanley worked as an auditor for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Boston and Dorn Transportation in Brighton for many years before his retirement.

He enjoyed reading, computers, music and traveling to Ireland. Hanley was a people person and loved spending time with his cats.

Hanley was the loving son of the late John and Margaret (Noonan) Hanley and caring brother of Paul F. Hanley of Melrose and the late Mary T. (Hanley) McDermott and John J. Hanley. He is also survived by several nephews.
