BPDA board approves 5 McBride St. affordable-housing agreement

The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) board during its May 11 meeting approved an affordable-housing agreement with the developer of the 5 McBride St. project, according to BPDA spokesperson Bonnie McGilpin.

Developer Stephen Ballas has plans for an 11-unit, mixed-use project at 5 McBride St., the former home of the popular Irish bar James’s Gate. Ballas has already started building townhouses at the former James’s Gate parking lot across the street at 14-16 McBride St.

As part of the agreement, Ballas will have one affordable-housing unit at 5 McBride St. and pay $129,000 into the City’s affordable-housing fund.
