The first of possibly many annual fishing derbies will be held at Jamaica Pond on June 24, and will be a free family event, according to a press release.
The “Catch & Release with the Boston Police” is the first annual fishing derby hosted by the officers and staff of the Boston Police District E-13. Activities for area children and their families will include fishing, trophies, prizes, raffles, food, music, and demonstrations.
The event will be held at Jamaica Pond June 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., rain or shine. A limited amount of fishing poles and night crawlers will be provided at the event, so families are encouraged to bring their own.
The fishing derby is sponsored by Boston Parks and Recreation, Boston Park Rangers, Massachusetts Environmental Police, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Appalachian Mountain Club, Bass Pro Shops, and The Fishing Academy.
