Meetings

Democratic State Convention Caucus, Registered Democrats in Boston Ward 11 (Roxbury/Jamaica Plain) will hold our caucus on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Egleston Square Y , 3134 Washington Street , Roxbury , Ma.) in Egleston Square to elect delegates and alternates to the 2018 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention.   Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 10:00 a.m. sharp. . Only those who are already signed in or in line by 10:00 a.m. can participate in the caucus.

The Public Service Committee of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 6 at 7:00pm at Curtis Hall at 20 South Street. On the agenda will be a petition of  Grass Fed at 605 Centre Street for a transfer of its 7-day Common Victualler (Restaurant) Beer & Wine with Liqueurs License, to 605GF, Inc. at the same location, with Socrates Abreu as manager, and also an Entertainment License for one TV. Also on the agenda will be a discussion with Boston Bikes about more bicycle racks, budgets, and other bicycle issues. All interested residents are invited to attend.

ESNA Monthly Meeting, Egleston Square Neighborhood Association, Mon. Feb. 26, 6:30pm at Egleston Y, 3134 Washington St.

         JP Zoning Committee, March 7th at Farnsworth House.  The agenda for that meeting will include 16 Everett Street (construct a new three-story residential condominium on 22,102 square foot vacant lot, with nine (9) residential units and nine (9) off-street parking spaces at grade).  After March 7th, the Committee’s next upcoming meetings will be March 21st and April 4th.

         Networking Group, local chapter of BNI, meets on Wednesdays at the Farnsworth House at 7am. Consists of 30 members of different professions. Through development and trust and relationships amongst the members, objective is to promote each other’s businesses. Boston Police Department Meetings, The District E-13 Police Monthly Meeting will be held on Thurs Mar. 1 at 7pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South St. The Neighborhood Advisory Committee will be held on Tues. April 17 at 6:30pm at 3347 Washington St.

Seeking Interested Local Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs for New Mentoring Program, In response to feedback from local small businesses and entrepreneurs, JP Centre/South Main Streets is excited to kick off a new mentoring program this year. The program will provide a valuable mentoring network to local small business owners and entrepreneurs. There will be opportunities to connect participants with entrepreneurs from other local university and business associations. Renee Wong, a local JP resident with extensive economic consulting background, is volunteering with JPCSMS to spearhead this project.          Boston Teens Invited to Summer Job and Resource Fair, Boston teens ages 15 to 18 interested in a summer job through SuccessLink, the Mayor’s Summer Jobs program, are encouraged to attend the City of Boston SuccessLink Youth Job and Resource Fair on Saturday, March 10 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

parkrun is a grassroots, community running event, run by volunteers for the local running and walking community. We hold free timed 5k events every week.  Everyone is invited to run, jog or walk for 5k (two laps around the pond). We are very proud to be the first parkrun in Boston, MA. Its

been a very successful initiative for getting people of all ages outside to exercise, and to meet members of their local community. We meet on

Saturdays at 8:45am at the top of the Sugarbowl. Run starts at 9:00am.

Seniors

Caregiver Support Workshop, Savvy Caregiver is a training program for caregivers who care for someone with Alzheimer’s or related Dementias. It assists family members (or friends) in their new role as caregiver, a role for which they may be unprepared. The program builds information and knowledge about the illness, helps to develop skills to manage daily life, and creates an outlet to share challenges and experiences with others. The program is offered at no charge and meets 1 day per week for 6 weeks. *If you would like to attend the class, but need someone to care for your loved one while you do so, respite care can be arranged. Make a difference as an Arnold Arboretum Field Study Guide!  Training for the spring season of school programs at the Arboretum begins March 29. We are looking for outgoing and mature adults who can commit to two years of volunteering. You do not need to know about plants, but experience working with children is preferred.          Chelsea Jewish Hospice & Palliative Care (CJHPC) is seeking volunteers to offer companionship and support 1-2 hours per week to persons facing terminal illness who reside in Jamaica Plain.  Volunteers can make a difference for patients through activities such as holding a hand, listening to music, running an errand, or even just sitting quietly.
