Gang member sentenced for dealing drugs at JP housing dev.

Javonte Robinson, a 21-year-old Heath Street gang member, was sentenced on July 19 in federal court for distributing drugs in and around the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, according to a press release.

Robinson, who is also known as “Biggie” and “Big Dog,” was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young to one year and one day in prison and six years of probation. Robinson pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to distribute cocaine base and to distributing cocaine base within 1000 feet of a public housing development.

Robinson and eight co-defendants were charged in January in connection with illegal drug distribution and firearm possession around Mildred C. Hailey Apartments.

Last year, co-defendant Kevin Smith arranged a drug sale for Robinson, who sold crack cocaine to a cooperating witness near the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, according to the press release. Smith and Robinson also accepted responsibility for five additional sales that were not charged in the indictment, according to the press release.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on July 27.
