By Gazette Staff

The Jamaica Plain Community Centers Adult Learning Program (JPCCALP) is proud to announce its participation in National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week 2024, taking place from September 16 to September 23. This weeklong celebration is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of adult education and family literacy in enhancing the lives of millions of Americans.

National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week is observed annually and is endorsed by the National Coalition for Literacy. This week is dedicated to recognizing the transformative power of adult education and family literacy, which helps millions of individuals in the United States achieve their goals of employment, self-sufficiency, and active citizenship.

National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week is a time to highlight the vital role that adult education plays in helping adults gain the skills they need for employment, and personal growth. It also underscores the importance of family literacy programs, which equip parents with the tools they need to support their children’s educational journey.

In celebration of National Adult Education & Family Literacy Week, the JPCC Adult Learning Program is excited to launch several initiatives focused on English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. These activities aim to empower our ESOL learners by enhancing their language skills, increasing their civic engagement, and fostering community integration.

About Jamaica Plain Community Centers Adult Learning Program

The Jamaica Plain Community Centers Adult Learning Program (ALP), part of the Jamaica Plain community since 1982, was established in response to the demand for basic education, employment-related skill building and ESOL services among local adults. During that time, ALP has provided free education, pre-vocational, and other support services to low and moderate income adults to over 5400 adult learners. Each year, we serve over 300 adults, from 18 years of age and up.
