Dear Editor,
My name is Lindsay Dancy, and I am the founder of Drakie’s Dream, a Boston-based nonprofit created in memory of my beloved rescue dog, Drake. Our mission is to help local families experiencing financial hardship keep their dogs fed, healthy, and safely at home.
Through Drakie’s Dream, we provide dog food, treats, toys, and essential pet supplies to residents throughout Jamaica Plain and other Boston neighborhoods.
The need for pet food assistance continues to grow. Many families love their dogs deeply but may experience an unexpected job loss, medical expense, housing difficulty, or temporary financial setback. When families cannot afford food for their pets, they may feel forced to surrender them to an already overwhelmed shelter system. A bag of dog food or a case of canned food can help keep a dog with the family that loves them.
Drakie’s Dream is currently seeking funding, monthly sponsors, donated supplies, storage space, partnerships with local businesses and neighborhood organizations. Funding would allow us to purchase food, organize community distribution events, deliver food to elderly or disabled pet owners, and reach more Boston families in need.
We are inviting Jamaica Plain residents, businesses, foundations, and community leaders to support this growing effort. Donations of any amount can make a meaningful difference.
To learn more, donate, or discuss a partnership, please visit drakiesdream.org or email [email protected].
Together, we can help keep Boston dogs fed, cared for, and at home with the people who love them.
