Located within Boston’s Latin Quarter on Sunnyside Street, the Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF) continues to offer extensive cultural and civic programming for local youth. The organization is currently enrolling children ages 6 to 13 in its “Artes Culturales” program. This accessible, small-group performing arts initiative focuses heavily on instructing youth in Afro-Latin traditions. Enrolled children have the opportunity to study specialized classes in Bachata and Salsa, receive instruction in piano, drums, and voice, or participate in devising original theater pieces based on traditional Afro-Latin myths.
For older teens, HSTF runs the “Jóvenes en Acción” program, which combines arts training with college preparation, financial literacy courses, and community organizing. The program also provides post-secondary micro-grants for participating students. The broader public is invited to see HSTF’s youth ensembles perform at the organization’s annual Halloween Fiesta, scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at Mozart Park. The event will feature live performances from the youth ensembles alongside seasonal games and crafts. It offers families a chance to celebrate the holiday while supporting an organization that has operated in the neighborhood for 35 years.
