JPNC Candidate Bio: Jesus Gerena, At Large

The Gazette offered all of the candidates for the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council the opportunity to submit biographical statements for publication on our Web site.

The election will take place on July 12 at Jamaica Plain Orange line stops, as well Hi-Lo Foods in Jackson Square, J.P. Licks, and in the parking lot next to Star Fish in Egleston Square. Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and again between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Jesus Gerena: This is my fourth time running for the Neighborhood Council. In my work with the Hyde Square Task Force I am involved in various community initiatives and issues including youth needs, affordable housing, local development, and improving the overall quality of life in JP. In the council I have been involved in the Youth Affairs and Zoning Committee, and currently serve as the Vice-Chair of the JPNC. My volunteer experiences in JP include coaching in the Regan Youth Baseball League and as a board member of City Life/Vida Urbana. In addition, I serve as a mentor to local teens. Through my work and volunteer experience I know what a vibrant and dynamic community we have in Jamaica Plain. I believe that the Neighborhood Council can continue to be a vehicle for our community to have its’ needs met and I wish to continue helping in that regard.
