Editorial: Occupying JP

The Occupy movement was a historic success as consciousness-raising and a validation that things really are as bad as they feel. It should survive as more than T-shirts and the inevitable movie. One way that can happen is through hands-on work in local communities.

As usual, JP was ahead on the curve on this. Occupy JP is on the cutting edge of this evolving movement.

What Occupy JP does with that potential remains to be seen. So far, it has offered admirable fury and sometimes questionable facts. But it is growing and transforming by the week.

JP is already loaded with liberal, but not necessarily radical, activists. Occupy JP’s in-your-face approach could end up energizing or alienating them. This is a new school of activism, and we’re all about to learn some lessons.
