Web error puts Vegas casino in JP

A major Las Vegas hotel and casino occupies the Jamaicaway Tower and a triple-decker on Child Street, according to an incorrect Google Maps listing that has spread across the web.

The 111 Perkins St. condo tower is labeled as Nevada’s Venetian Resort Hotel Casino on the popular web mapping service. Another address behind the former Agassiz Elementary School is also listed as a Venetian address. Google and various other Internet sites list both places as “casinos” or “hotels” and offer up phone numbers for each.

In truth, a resident of the Jamaicaway Tower works from his home as a specialty marketing representative for the Venetian. The resident, who wished to remain anonymous in this article, said he has no connection with Child Street and was surprised to learn that the number Google lists for that address is his fax machine line.

The resident said he works to find players for the Las Vegas casino and is not interested in marketing to the general public. He said he has no idea how Google picked up his information. He added that he sometimes receives calls from out-of-towners looking to book a hotel room.

“I want to be under the radar,” the resident said.

A spokesperson for California-based Google, who wished to remain anonymous, did not explain the cause of the map error, but said that Google will look into it. She encouraged users to report any errors via the Google Maps page at google.com/maps.
