Imagine sitting on the Orange Line subway and hearing, “Next stop, J & P’s Garbage Services Stony Brook T stop.” That might become a reality as the MBTA is considering selling the naming rights of T stations, including those on the Green and Orange lines.

“It’s been discussed, but there are no proposals on the table at this time,” said MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo.

The MBTA is attempting to dig out of a projected $161 million budget hole that has forced the agency to raise rates and scale back services.
