Letter: Thanks for Regan League success

On behalf of the players, coaches and families of the Jamaica Plain Regan Youth League, I would like to thank everyone who helped make our 43rd season such a success.

First, thanks to the local organizations and businesses who, despite hard economic times, donated over $25,000 to sponsor 55 teams and keep registration fees affordable for all JP families. I encourage all JP residents to shop locally and patronize those businesses who invest in our young people’s future.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department and state Department of Conservation and Recreation helped schedule and maintain the fields, and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services helped with the Opening Day Parade and Closing Picnic. This year, we continued our partnership with the Boston Foundation’s CHAMPS Boston program and received free trainings and in-kind support, while Good Sports made a generous equipment donation. I want to thank the Boston ROCKS initiative for its grant to support our summer programming for teens. Special thanks go to the hundreds of volunteers who made the league a success this year, especially the coaches who gave young people the chance to learn new skills and make new friends in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Most of all, we want to thank the young people who played hard, listened to their coaches, and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the season.  With everyone’s help we look forward to another successful season in 2013.  If you want to get involved please visit our website at reganyouthleague.org.
