City Councilor Mike Ross, who lives in Mission Hill and represents part of Hyde Square, announced he is running for mayor today.
He tweeted the announcement with a link to his campaign website at Kevin Fitzgerald Park on Mission Hill.
“Today, in that same spirit of community activism and determination to continue building a better Boston, I am announcing that I will be getting into the race for mayor,” Ross said in a statement posted on his website. “I love this city. I believe in its people and our limitless potential.”
In the statement, he talks about how his father, a Holocaust survivor, and his mother, who is gay, taught him about the immigrant experience and tolerance.
